As far as hunting rifles, free-floating a barrel is highly underrated and highly misunderstood; but it makes a HUGE difference in consistent performance and accuracy. Free-floating means that your barrel “floats,” it does not touch your stock at any point its length from the action to the end of the muzzle. Free floating allows the barrel to vibrate and move freely during the shot process without any interference from the stock. There is not one single benchrest rifle that doesn’t have a free floated barrel; hunting rifles deserve the same. All Archer Custom Rifles are pillar bedded.
